What Type of Mic Should You Use for Better Sound Quality in Your Videos?

The audio quality of your social media and marketing videos is important; here I unpack the 2 common types of microphones that can improve your sound.

If you regularly create videos and/or livecasts for your online business, are you getting the best sound? Audio quality for your videos is very important – and while it doesn’t need to be perfect, it does need to be decent.

In this video I’ll explore the two common mics – the lavalier (or simply ‘lav’) and the shotgun, and best practices for using them.

And yes, if you record on your iPhone, iPad or other smartphone, you can buy mics that are compatible with these devices.

The equipment referenced in this video includes:

  • Tascam DR-40 external audio recorder
  • Sennheiser G3 system with ME-2 lavalier mic and radio transmitter and receiver
  • Sennhseiser K6 series shotgun mics

I hope this helps you get the most from your next shoot! You’ll find many more tips and strategies for leveling up your video, livecasts and photography for higher engagement and conversions over at the blog.
