Marianne Williamson is an internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, lecturer, and author of 11 books, including her now-famous A Return to Love. Photographing Marriane is the kind of experience that makes you step up your game a bit. You feel like you’re in the presence of a higher being — but really it’s your higher self that’s awoken in her company, and isn’t going to let you forget it.
As we were wrapping the shoot. Marianne turned to my son who was assisting me and busily collapsing light stands, and asked him who he intended to vote for in the presidential election. “Actually, I’ve decided not to vote — I don’t think it really matters,” he replied. Wrong answer. Marianne immediately ascended to her spiritual throne and with precision and warmth, explained to my son exactly why he had the most skin in the game and had an obligation to cast his vote — and that indeed, it may the only thing that really matters. That conversation turned the tide for my son and meant more to me than the shoot itself; it was her gift to both of us.
