Carolina House
A tribute to the residents of The Carolina House, an assisted-living facility on Hilton Head Island, SC
This personal project was inspired by my visits to my mother, who lived here. I was inspired by the stories of these residents who seemed marginalized and forgotten, but whose lives were every bit as rich with love, loss and dreams as the rest of us. What started as a few portraits evolved into a photographic documentary of every resident during the years 2008-2009. These images, lit solely by a window and printed 5’ in height, graced the hallways of the Carolina House for several years in celebration of their special community.
